David Harris, Indianapolis Charter Schools Director - Office of the Mayor
As director, Mr. Harris coordinates all responsibilities the Mayor has as the nation's first charter schools sponsor. Harris was previously assistant deputy mayor for planning, where, among other things, he was responsible to the Mayor for development of his violent video game ordinance, drafted the City's paid leave and flex time policies and coordinated the City's involvement in the historic partnership among the City, IPS, the Simon Youth Foundations and the Indiana Pacers to open two alternative schools in Union Station. He also was one of the Chief researchers and drafters of the Peterson Plan, the Mayor's 1999 strategy for running city government. Harris previously practiced law with the Indianapolis firm of Baker and Daniels. He also worked as a Governor's Fellow under Gov. Evan Bayh and was a Lyndon B. Johnson intern in the office of Congressman Andrew Jacobs, Jr. Mr. Harris received his BA from Northwestern University in 1992 and a J.D. from Indiana University School of Law in 1997.
